About Us

Metabolic Therapeutics and the Amin Lab seeks to translate their understanding of cellular metabolism into novel effective therapeutics for diseases associated with metabolic dysfunction. We develop novel chemical tools for better understanding how modulation of selective targets can influence neurodegenerative disease (Alzheimer’s Disease).

Our Team

Our overall research interest is focused on developing novel therapeutics for neurodegenerative diseases and other metabolic-related diseases. To achieve this goal, our research focuses on target identification, in silico-based drug design and development, synthesis, and testing in vitro and in vivo.

Research Projects

Project 1: current NIH proposal: PPARδ/Ɣ

Project 1: current NIH proposal: PPARδ/Ɣ

Funded NIH-R15, R43, R44.

Selective PPARδ/Ɣ agonist improves behavioral deficits and synaptic plasticity in a model of Alzheimer’s disease.

Project 2: LXR beta/PPAR

Project 2: LXR beta/PPAR

Selective LXR beta/PPAR alpha agonist improve behavioral deficits and synaptic plasticity in a model of Alzheimer’s Disease.

Project 3: RANBP9

Project 3: RANBP9

RANBP9 inhibitor (NC-9) mitigates reduction in spine density and development of neurofibrillary tangle-mediated neurodegeneration in a model of Alzheimer’s disease.

Project 4: IS362

Project 4: IS362

IS362, an FMO3 inhibitor, prevent TMAO-mediated synaptic deficits in models of Alzheimer’s disease and Diabetes type 2.
